
Application of dibromohydanto in aquaculture: a new weapon for green disease control
Under the background of the increasing intensification of aquaculture, the pollution of aquaculture water has intensified, and various pathogenic microorganisms have multiplied in large numbers, which has brought severe challenges to aquaculture. Dibromohydantoin is emerging as a preferred disinfectant for disease control in aquaculture due to its high efficacy, broad-spectrum activity, low toxicity, and environmental friendliness.
In terms of advantages, dibromohydantoin is not affected by factors such as water quality, salinity, pH, water temperature and organic matter, and can still stably exert its disinfection effect even in waters with high or low pH-. Once applied to the water body, this granular water-conditioning agent rapidly sinks to the bottom, coming into contact with the water from the bottom up. It dissolves quickly and is safe and easy to use. In terms of efficacy, dibromohydantoin is suitable for a wide range of aquaculture species, including fish, shrimp, crabs, loaches, frogs, sea cucumbers, freshwater mussels, and eels. It effectively controls bacterial and fungal diseases and significantly improves pond bottoms with deteriorated substrates and water bodies severely polluted by organic matter. The conventional application rate in production is 0.3–0.4 g/m³, which is economically efficient. Furthermore, dibromohydantoin demonstrates outstanding efficacy in pond disinfection, water-body disease prevention, and disease treatment. With a zero withdrawal period, it does not interfere with the normal marketing of farmed aquatic animals, making it a robust technical support for promoting green and sustainable aquaculture development.
